Importance of Cat Vaccinations
At Berclair Animal Hospital P.C. in Memphis, TN, we offer many great services for your pet. Cat vaccines are just one of those many services we offer here. Cat vaccines are important because they not only keep your cat safe but other animals and people. Our animal hospital can help you figure out which vaccines your cat will need to help keep them protected from various diseases.
When to Get Vaccines
At about 6 to 8 weeks old is the normal range when a kitten should start receiving their vaccinations. Kittens normally receive their vaccinations through being 16 weeks old. The shots are normally spread out between 3 to 4 weeks. Once your kitten becomes an adult, they will not need as many vaccines.
Which Shots to Give My Cat
There are a variety of shots that your cat will need to protect against illness such as:
- Feline calicivirus
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis
Depending on how much time your cat spends outside, they may need to have additional vaccinations. You can check with our animal hospital to see what’s recommended. Some recommendations can include:
- Chlamydia-This is often a part of the FVRCP set of shots
- Feline Leukemia-can is spread through saliva, feces, milk, and urine. It can be very serious if contracted.
- Bordetella- For cats that spend time in kennels or groomers.
