Vaccinations

Vaccinations from Berclair Animal Hospital P.C.

Vaccinations are a critical part of the health of not only children but pets as well. When someone decides to welcome an animal into their home, vaccinations are an important part of the responsibilities of pet ownership. Vaccinations are responsible for preventing a number of serious diseases and illnesses from inflicting harm not only the animal but also members of the community as well. The reliable veterinary team from Berclair Animal Hospital P.C. is here to make sure that everyone in the Memphis area has access to a trained veterinarian who understands vaccinations.

How do Vaccinations Work?

Vaccinations are among the most important parts of pet ownership. These shots work by providing pets with a way to combat diseases without ever having been exposed to them. Vaccines take proteins from various illnesses, such as viruses and bacteria, and expose the immune system to them. Because these are only fragments of bacteria and viruses, they pose no threat to the body. The immune system will develop antibodies to these proteins, allowing the immune system to fight the bacteria or virus if it ever encounters the disease in the future. In a sense, the vaccinations train the body to fight these diseases without ever having to see them "for real."

What can Vaccinations Prevent?

Vaccinations can prevent a number of serious diseases that would otherwise cause harm. One of the most important diseases that vaccinations can prevent is rabies. Rabies can infect both animals and people. If someone contracts rabies, it has a high mortality rate. Therefore, it is important for pet owners to protect themselves and their pets from harm.

Vaccinations also have the ability to prevent a disease called kennel cough. This is a dangerous disease that can cause serious harm to pets and people if not prevented. There are also vaccinations against a number of other diseases including certain forms of hepatitis, adenovirus, Diptheria, and more. It is important for pets to stay up to date on their vaccination schedule. This will protect not only them but other people and pets in the home.
